Summer Reading Program Party MTL would like to thank everyone who has helped make their summer reading programs a success. This is the last week before the prizes are awarded to our reading winners for kids and adults. So come to the library and read, read, read. Drawings for all prizes will be held at the party July 28th. Winners will be notified by phone if they are not present. Chris McBrien, the Magicstoryteller, will amuse you with fun activities, magic demonstrations and trick explanations. He has hosted our summer reading party for the last several years and is always entertaining to watch. "I'm Ready for Kinderagrten" Storytime Are you going to Kindergarten this fall? Join us for a special storytime! We'll share stories, music, and rhymes to get you ready for a great first school year. Please register in person at MTL. Junk to Jewelry MTL is the place to go and find out how you can turn some of your old items into cute jewelry. Julie Doerr will be demonstrating how to turn some of the items you have laying around the house into wearable art. Thursday, August 26th, Julie will lead a program at 7p.m. demonstrating how to create unique jewelry pieces from old jewelry and other small items people tend to have around the house. This is a great way to clean out those junk drawers and put the items to good use. MTL has jewelry making books in the craft book area. Ask a friendly librarian to point out the shelves that can help you turn your odds and ends into necklaces, bracelets, earrings and more. Free-Fine Day The last summer free-fine day will be Wednesday, August 11th. Gather up those books you forgot to return over the summer and hand them across the desk to a librarian to have your fines waived. Dropping the books into the book returns will not waive your fines. Check out our Website of the Week! For the next few weeks we will be featuring the websites of some St. Louis attractions. If you are looking for something fun to do on the weekend or are planning a "staycation" this year, these sites can help you plan. Or maybe just tune you in to some fun things you never knew about the city we are so close to. Have some end of summer fun and get the kids ready to go back to school at the St. Louis Science Center. Get everybody back into the swing of learning by visiting the Life Science Lab, explore space through "Mr. Hubble's Telescope", or learn what it was really like to be a pirate. Admission to the center is free, a fee may apply to special exhibits. If you have questions or comments about the website, please e-mail the webmaster at mtlwebmaster@waterloolibrary.org. |
