The Genealogy and Local History Department of Morrison-Talbott Library offers a
variety of resources to genealogy researchers and local history enthusiasts.
Waterloo is the county seat of Monroe County Illinois, and as the public library,
Morrison-Talbott Library takes great pride in providing as much information
concerning the history of the area and genealogical tools as possible.
We have over 500 Illinois History books and 1,500 Genealogy related books, many
written or compiled by local historians and genealogists from the area.
In addition, there are many individual articles, maps, plats, and files concerning
the history of the area and the people that have lived here.
The Genealogy/History Department has two microfilm machines, a research computer,
and free WiFi. The Genealogy research computer contains many searchable cemetery
files and has links to several genealogy and local history websites which
Morrison-Talbott Library provides the subscription for. Some websites are
available for at-home use at no charge, with a valid Morrison-Talbott Library
card.
Limited research is provided at no charge. Detailed requests should be sent to
mtlgenealogy@waterloolibrary.org. If more in depth research is required we
can provide contact information for local genealogists who will do research for
a fee.
