BOOKS
The State and Local History section of the Genealogy and Local History Dept. has a wide variety of books on local, regional and state history. These include classics such as John Renyolds’ My Own Times, as well as more recent publications such as Gerald Danzer’s Illinois, A History in Pictures. Our book selection covers a wide variety of historical subjects ranging from the Cahokia Mounds to the French colonial settlements, from early statehood to the Civil War, and from transportation to industrialization. We also have individual county and community histories. In addition to books on strictly historical subjects, we also have books on Illinois folklore, geology, cooking, holiday traditions, etc.
