Many St. Louisans know about the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. But did you know that the Louisiana Purchase Exposition also had a large entertainment district called “The Pike”? The mile-long Pike had dozens of attractions and concessions that featured entertainment (with actual and simulated rides), historical and scientific exhibits, foreign lands and food, a circus, zoo, and wild west show, and, of course, the giant Observation (Ferris) Wheel. Learn all about the Pike as Mike Truax, 1904 World’s Fair Society President, describes the experiences of a typical 1904 family as they take “A Trip to the Pike”.
