This is an open house free play set up for kids in our large meeting room! Parents & guardians will need to stay with their children.

Family Storytime (all ages)

Join us for stories, songs, and activities/crafts. All ages are welcome to attend! This month’s theme is Fire Prevention Week.

LEGO Day (all ages)
Monday, October 12 from 10:00am-8:00pm
There are two ways to participate in LEGO Club! During Lego Days, we have many bins of Legos available to build with, in the youth library. For each creation, participants get an entry into the drawing for LEGO gift cards. We also have Lego Club at Home, where you can email pictures of your creations to lego@waterloolibrary.org and get entered into the drawing as well.

Storybook Creations (PreK-2^nd Grade)

Tuesday, October 20 at 6:30pm

Bring stories to life through reading and art! Each session begins with a story, followed by a hands-on art project inspired by the book. Children will explore their creativity, make connections between books and art, and create something special to take home. This month’s theme will be a pumpkin project!

Little Movers (ages 0-2) 

*Registration Required for the Fall Series (just come a few minutes early to the first session you would like to attend to fill out a short registration sheet)

This is a program for little ones up to two years old. This session will run from September through November on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. There will be two portions to the program, music & movement and a short playtime afterwards if you would like to stay.

• Music and Movement at 10:00am: A fun way for caregivers and little ones to interact through music, movement, and a short story. 
• Play and Learn from 10:45am-11:30am: This will be an open house play time with a variety of toys. Staying for this portion of the program is optional.
• Days this session are: 10/7, 10/21, 11/4, & 11/18

Storytime Adventures (ages 2-5)

*Registration Required for the Fall Series (just come a few minutes early to the first session you would like to attend to fill out a short registration sheet)

This is our storytime and more program for 2-5 year olds. This series will run from September through November. It will be a monthly four-week rotation as follows: 

• Storytime Days at 10:00am: This will be our storytime with stories, songs, & crafts or activities (1st & 3rd Tuesdays: 10/6, 10/20, 11/3, & 11/17)
• Playtime Days from 9:30-11:30am: This will be an open house, open-play with a variety of toys. (2nd Tuesdays: 10/13 and 11/10)
• First Art Days at 10:00am: This will focus on the art process rather than the finished product. (4th Tuesdays: 10/27 and 11/24)
• There will not be any activity if a 5th Tuesday falls during the month.

The Reading Studio (grades 3-5)

Each month features a new theme! Youth can choose any book that fits the theme, read at their own pace, then join us to share, and create a fun art project or hands-on activity inspired by the theme. This month’s theme is a 2027 Bluestem nominee.

Each month features a new theme! Youth can choose any book that fits the theme, read at their own pace, then join us to share, and create a fun art project or hands-on activity inspired by the theme. This month’s theme is a mystery book. 

Teen Hangout (grades 6-12)
Tuesday, September 29 from 6:00-7:30pm
Teens get to hangout and choose what activities they would like to do. There are snacks, games, crafts, and more.

STEAM Stories (ages 5-11)

We read a story and then complete some type of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and/or Mathematics activity to go with it. This month we are learning a little bit about chemical reactions and using a pumpkin-cano to observe a chemical reaction.
